Equine Osteopathy

Discover how osteopathic care can enhance your horse’s mobility, comfort, and performance. Offered by Dr. Denise Fowler at Sulphur River Veterinary Clinic.

Restoring balance and mobility through holistic, hands-on care.

At Sulphur River Veterinary Clinic, we offer equine osteopathy as a comprehensive approach to your horse’s health. Unlike traditional chiropractic care, osteopathy examines the entire body—joints, muscles, ligaments, organs, and connective tissues—to identify and treat areas of restriction. Dr. Denise Fowler, trained under Janek Vluggen, utilizes these techniques to restore optimal function and well-being in your horse.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING AN OSTEOPATHIC SESSION

What to Expect During an Osteopathic Session Content: Each session begins with a thorough evaluation of your horse’s overall condition, including posture, gait, and any visible asymmetries. Dr. Fowler then performs a hands-on assessment, checking the mobility of the spine, limbs, and joints. Techniques may include gentle manipulations and mobilizations to release restrictions. Depending on the horse’s needs, complementary therapies like acupuncture or massage may be integrated to enhance relaxation and effectiveness.

AFTERCARE AND PREPARATION

Post-treatment, your horse may require 1–3 days of rest to allow the body to adjust and heal. It’s beneficial to have your horse lightly exercised and relaxed before the session. Simple stretches, like encouraging the horse to touch its elbow with its nose using treats, can aid in the assessment and treatment process.
